Our annual 2-day camp at a finca with a pool, donated by a generous rancher of Villanueva, provided a day of fun, including sports, arts and crafts, pool fun, and a yummy lunch for 2 groups of special needs youth of the area. Here, volunteers Caleb and Alex are helping Monchito try swimming.
We are very proud of the good grades and community hours donated of our 13 university scholarship students. All are studying in fields of education or health professions. Nicaragua gives free university tuition to Nicaraguan high school graduates who pass entrance exams. We fund a stipend each semester for needy students, which they use for transportation, materials and living costs.
In 2026 spring we were able to continue the construction work on a new primary classroom for the elementary school Los Laureles II, started last year. The Villanueva Municipality and the Ministry of Education (MINED) celebrated the inauguration of the new classroom in June 2026.
Working with Amigos for Christ, we completed installing a new, metal water storage tank for the community of Mata de Caña. It replaces a plastic tank that ruptured due to time and sun damage. The tank, beside the primary school, is supplied water from the well whose pump we also replaced in the past year. Our board member Dominic Flavin is shown standing below the tank.
