{"id":12287,"date":"2015-12-13T19:20:55","date_gmt":"2015-12-13T19:20:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/somosohananicaragua.org\/?p=12287"},"modified":"2016-03-30T21:20:55","modified_gmt":"2016-03-30T21:20:55","slug":"response-to-drought-of-2014-15-new-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/somosohananicaragua.org\/index.php\/2015\/12\/13\/response-to-drought-of-2014-15-new-post\/","title":{"rendered":"Drought of 2014-15 &#038; Moringa"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p>The population of Nicaragua is facing a severe drought from the El Ni\u00f1o Pacific Current that threatens the country\u2019s food supply both in the city and countryside.\u00a0 A way of life becomes one of survival.\u00a0 Children will go to school hungry.\u00a0 This year only 50% of farmer\u2019s low quality crop was harvested. Along with the drought there is also the continued debilitating high temperatures of 90 degrees. The main river that flowed by our local town was used for water, washing clothes, and bathing, dried up and just evaporated.\u00a0\u00a0 There are only small puddles here and there.<\/p>\n<p>Somos Ohana Nicaragua in collaboration and working with the local communities offered an alternative survival plant solution to the scarcity of water for plants. The plant Moringa Oleifer, which is known locally, but not cultivated, is used occasionally for sore throats.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the other benefits are unknown locally and thus not utilized.\u00a0\u00a0 Moringa has the added capability of supplying all of the needed vitamins and minerals for an individual.
